Oil Burner

These pictures show the oil atomizer firing #6 heavy fuel oil at 2.0 mmBtu/Hr. with 80 IWC pressure on the atomizing oxygen . The burner was fired with 10% excess oxygen dry and a chamber temperature of 1500 degrees F.

These pictures show the oil atomizer firing #2 light fuel oil at 2.0 mmBtu/Hr. with 39 IWC pressure on the atomizing oxygen. The burner was fired with 7% excess oxygen dry and a chamber temperature of 1500 degrees F.

Oil Burner Information

  • The same atomizer is used for both #2 and #6 oil firing.
  • #6 oil 108 SSU @ 110 Deg C (230F), 4% sulfur.
  • Atomizing oxygen flow tested at 31 cubic meters (1100 scfh) @ 0.2 Bar (80 IWCG) pressure, balance of flow around outside of atomizer.

It was not possible to fire greater than 3.0 mmBtu as chamber temprature limit was met. However it is felt that this nozzle will fire at 4.0 mmBtu, with no problem resulting in a turndown of 6:1. This nozzle can be adapted to most conventional nozzle mix conical burners.
